CR claims that Mid-July or August. These are the months that have the web a buzz again with a rumored announcement from Canon. Perhaps new DSLRs or maybe some new lenses. After all, the EOS 50D, the very last DSLR without video in Canon’s line up is due for a replacement. My guesstimate would be appropriately end of August to coincide with a September Photokina in Cologne, Germany.

Many lenses from Canon’s line up are all due for an update as well. For now, a prime lens update should be in the works as there has been a some zooms updated in the past 2 years. But I’m sure with a new full frame DSLR announcement will come a new zoom lens. Quite possibly the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM with Image Stabilizer and new glass elements.

One lens that desperately needs to be modernized is the EF 50mm f/1.4. The original 50mm f/1.4 was first released in 1993. The 20 plus year old tech on this lens needs to be updated with ring Ultrasonic Motor and modern glass elements. Sigma has already released their 50mm f/1.4 for full frame and 30mm f/1.4 for crop sensors and both are selling well. It is prime time Canon puts out what it does best-yes, lenses.

Just to whet your appetite for more Canon, here are 2 wallpapers from 20th Anniversary in 2007. Just click on the respective piece, wait for the large version (2398 × 1700) and just drag and drop onto your desktop.
